No one to call you sweet nothings and bring chocolate hearts this year? Fret not, you have only to look outside to see a beautiful Valentine’s Day gift sure to lift your spirits and brighten the neighborhood as well. On the last block of Innes Avenue outside of the Hunters Point Shipyard, just before Donohue Street, you’ll see Daffodil Hill in bloom. IBNA members Richard Laufman and Clare Conrad have worked hard for the past few years to plant various daffodil bulbs. The bulbs are blooming now — watch for changes in the coming weeks.

IBNA held its Annual General Meeting on February 2, 2012 at Speakeasy Ales & Lagers. IBNA welcomed several long-time members, as well as some new ones, and was joined by SFPD Captain Paul Chignell. We enjoyed the great beer, good food and community input on how to focus IBNA’s attention for 2012. IBNA members also elected three returning Board members: Richard Laufman, Brian Stott, and Robert Van Houten, Treasurer. Thanks to those of you who participated — we look forward to having a great year with your support.

9:19AM Meeting Called to order: Quorum Present.

9:21AM Chairman’s Report:

9:21AM a. Update on Website: MH presented new website, incorporating suggestions & changes made earlier by Board. SES to change “Contact Us” to “Resources,” & will “Yelp” Steve as well as write him a ltr of recommendation. KA will update the “Resources” section; JF will upload future IBNA mtg dates into the Bayview Footprints calendar, which is linked to IBNA website.

9:51AM b. Update on DPW actions: MH reports he is continuing monthly contact w/ M. Nuru & feels positive change is happening.

9:54AM Treasurer’s Report:

RVH submitted financial spreadsheets via e-mail in advance of mtg.

9:57AM Secretary’s Report:

SES asked for clarification re ltr to K. Bonner; Board will seek a mtg w/ him instead. SES reports uploading all minutes from 2011 on website, and will “Yelp” Steve & write ltr. of recommendation for him.

b. Stair design: MH reports that w/ SFRA gone, Lila Hussain has promised to introduce him to the new point person. MH would like to see more public input; Board would like to see solar/wind powered lower level lighting (not cobra-headed light poles) & plantings designed/installed by local biz, such as Bay Natives or Flora Grubb.

10:25AM c. Update on Membership: BS presented updated membership rolls, & also brought in draft AGM ltr. Board approved ltr as edited.

10:11AM New Business: AGM 2/2/12 @ 6PM, Speakeasy Lagers & Ales

a. Plan for the AGM: Discussion of how to fill open Board seats: Board can appoint someone to replace the existing vacancy on Board. All seats coming open (BS, RL, RVH) will have incumbents running as these current Board members have agreed to continue, and nominations will also be accepted for new candidates. BS will have a budget of $120 for food & water; BS, MH, SES & RL will help set up @ 5PM; BS, MH, SES & JF will help clean up; MH will contact Forrest re WiFi/projector & will bring laptop; JF will bring big post-it sheets for tallying votes; BS will send out AGM ltr + e-blasts; JF will add AGM to Bayview Footprints calendar; SES will do call for nominations on website + e-blasts; and all Board members urged to submit names/address of dignitaries to BS b/4 1/16/12.

11:10AM Meeting opened to general public.

Meeting with Kanya Dorland of The Port of San Francisco to discuss designs for the 3rd & Cargo parcel. Ms. Dorland presented refined plans for fences, benches, tables, and pedestrian improvements to the parcel. Group provided critical feedback, especially re bicycle paths in the area, the use of local native plants (and a local nursery to do the design/planting) on the site, as well as solar/wind powered lighting. Further meetings will be scheduled, most likely in six months’ time.

IBNA receives SF Parks Alliance Award

San Francisco Parks Alliance presented IBNA with its Blue Greenway Partner Appreciation Award at an event held on January 19, 2010, in recognition of IBNA’s “tireless effort and determination in bringing your community together and revitalizing San Francisco’s open spaces.” IBNA Board member Jill Fox has worked tirelessly to provide keen input on this vital project. We are proud of this recognition of her work.

9:40AM Meeting Called to order: Quorum Present.

9:42AM Approval of 10/10/11 Meeting Minutes:

Motion made by RL, seconded by BS; unanimously approved as amended to note that KA was absent at last meeting.

9:43AM Chairman’s Report:

a. Walk with Director DPW on 10/18/11: MH reported an excellent walk w/ Mohammed Nuru & other SF City Dept. heads from Park to Earl St. M. Nuru disliked run-down cottage; started clean-up on Fitch, & will pursue reimbursement from owners. MH to follow-up on 11/15/11.

a. Correspondence: SES made approved changes to P. Albert ltr & ltr went out. Per Board request, SES will do TY ltr to K. Bonner re clean-up.

a. Update on Web Site: MH reports that he & SES have worked w/ Steve of Red Rice Bowl Design on the new website. MH previewed website for Board & accepted suggestions for website changes. Motion to offer Steve “lifetime” IBNA business membership in exchange for his gratis website work made by KA; seconded by RL; all approved. MH & SES to continue working on website.

10:07AM b. Stair design: MH reports that DPW offered 2 designs; MH wrote a ltr. as an individual offering a 3^rd design alternative w/ bench & landing.

10:09AM c. Update on Membership: BS has no new updates. BS will use new website as marketing tool at the AGM, showing businesses how they will receive free promotion as part of supporting IBNA.

a. AT&T U-Verse Boxes: MH will talk to Joe Boss of Dogpatch Neighborhood Ass’n about how they blocked boxes there. MH will invite AT&T to attend a future IBNA mtg; will also invite Dogpatch neighbors & D. Herrera.

10:25AM b. 501(c)(3): Board discussed reality of securing 501(c)(3) status, including requirement of filing income tax forms, etc. SES made motion to drop pursuing 501(c)(3) status; KA seconded; all approved. MH to ask K. Enea to write ltr to Sec. of State putting process on hold.

10:35AM c. AGM: will be held on 2/2/12 @ 6PM at Speakeasy Brewery again. Need to replace BL & possibly PP, if she doesn’t continue on the Board. All other Board members will remain.

October 01, 2011

9:19AM Meeting Called to order: Quorum Present.

Members Present: Michael Hamman, Jill Fox, Brian Stott, Richard Laufman, Sue Ellen Smith, and Pauline Peele (via telephone).

Members Absent: Bob Lake, Katharyn Altamore and Robert Van Houten.

9:20AM Approval of 9/10/11 Meeting Minutes:

Motion made by RL, 2d by BS, unanimously approved.

9:21AM Chairman’s Report:

a. Mayoral Debate @ Bayview Opera House: MH reports that Dennis Herrera complimented IBNA for its community work during this debate.

9:22AM b. Website: MH displayed revised “test” IBNA website. Board members made suggestions for additional changes; MH will do & report back. Also, training will be scheduled for Board members to learn site maintenance.

9:47AM c. 900 Innes Cottage:MH had conversation w/ Karl Hasz re the Cottage.

K. Hasz sits on the Historical Preservation Comm. & has been designated as our contact to move along the issues w/ the Cottage. K. Hasz admitted to MH that he has done work w/ Tenderloin Housing Clinic, which is a conflict of interest. K. Hasz also told MH that THC has solicited one roof bid from Lawson Roofing (who also does business w/ THC) in the amt. Of

$20,000, and asked MH to have IBNA donate funds to help defray this cost. JF advises MH to contact Charles Chase, head of Hist. Pres. Comm. & let him know of conflict – possibly also let City Atty. know of this. MH will also let Bldg. Insp. Comm. know of this situation.

9:50AM d. Report on Meeting w/ PG&E: MH had conversation with Mr. Ortez, the Dir. of Public Outreach for PG&E. Ortez seems well-connected, & told MH that PG&E has no plans for property development on the old power plant site, but has a 7 – 10 year “interim usage” plan to install modular bldgs on the upper tank lot and rent them to emerging businesses for 2-3 months at a time. MH told him that would be unfeasible (who would want to move in for that short a time?). Ortez also reports that 35′ of pipeline easement running through tank lot must stay clear, & that “people” are pressing PG&E to build a shed over the existing substation (IBNA opposes this).

10:15AM a. Correspondence: Peter Albert letter. SES presented revised ltr (w/ text fr. both MH & JF ltrs) to P. Albert re proposed Hudson Ave. bridge. Extensive & lively debate. SES to make changes as approved by Board.

10:26AM b. Correspondence: Bay Natives; TY ltrs: JF expresses frustration that Bay Natives ltr. went out late; SES explained confusion after last mtg. & MH reports that he faxed ltr. on day of Comm. hearing. SES reports all TY ltrs to Dufty, Avalos & Yeung went out, & will do TY to M. Nuru.

10:35AM Other Reports:

10:35AM a. Report of meeting with Director of DPW: MH, JF, SES, & PP met w/ Mohammed Nuru, Interim Dir. of DPW. All agreed it was productive, & led to M. Nuru scheduling a Neighborhood walk-through w/ several SF Dept. heads, where we can point out blight & neglect. MH has asked IBNA membership & Board to compile “punchlist” of items for this purpose. Walk-through is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 19^th, 8AM – 10AM, meet in Shoreline Park.

10:45AM b. DPW stairs update: MH reports that he has made several requests to Lila Hussain for release of the 2 proposed stair designs, to no avail. JF said L. Hussain has done all the work herself & cannot do weekend mtgs; perhaps if MH asks for designs to disperse to membership, she may do it.

10:50AM d. Update on Membership: BS will submit updated membership list to MH w/in 2 weeks, and will ask sponsors (biz members) for a .jpg which may be uploaded to new website.

10:52AM b. Move to declare Bob lake’s seat vacant. Discussion; Motion to Vacate made by JF; 2d by BS; all approved. MH to notify BL & ask him to remain member-at-large. Board to consider other candidates who may be appointed to fill seat for BL’s term.

10:59AM c. Discussion re trees on Fitch: MH discussed w/ Chris Buck (Dept of Urban Forestry, Div. of Street Use & Mapping, DPW. Owner should be cited for not maintaining trees.

11:09AM Future Agendas/Announcements.

JF announces that she will be taking a temporary hiatus from Board mtgs., as she is starting a new job, doing free-lance work, & taking her son on weekend college tours. Board expresses its appreciation for her hard work, & will welcome her back to mtgs when she is able. JF will stay on Board & participate via e-mail, & will participate in web training.

Also, JF announced that she attended the recent Mayoral debate (not Bayview Opera House) & that none of the candidates mentioned IBNA.

SES announced that Thursday, Oct. 29^th, the day after IBNA mtg w/ M. Nuru, a black trash toter was placed at bus stop on Innes @ Galvez, & on Friday, a 3-man DPW crew was cleaning up Innes Ave. near Hudson.
