Early efforts to curb speeders on Innes Avenue were vigilante affairs.
The above unnamed individual, in the late 80's, tired of having his car
plowed into by the speeders on the Hunters Point-Innes curve, took
matters in to his own hands. He said it worked quite well until DPW
came and dismantled it, replacing it with a regular sized sign.
Ultimately IBNA asked DPT for help with the situation. Their solution,
after extensive testing, was to raise the speed limit from 25 to 35.
When asked about this "solution" to speeding, they answered that 25
was considered to be a speed trap by law enforcement and that 35 was
much more enforceable.
We hate to quibble, but we've noticed that
raising the speed limit hasn't slowed anybody down the least little bit. |
